Homa is a duet for two women, seeking to reflect the idea of man being a mediator between the two poles of human existence: the perishable body and the divine essence. Human consciousness is resembled to a ladder that allows a connection between the upper and lower worlds: being created in the image of God, and at the same time, returning to be dust in the earth.
Homa draws inspiration from the geometrical structures of the elements of creation presented in the Book of Creation, an ancient text that serves as the basis for the wisdom of Kabbalah.
On stage, adjacent to the walls of the space, are two iron sculptures: a ladder with 7 steps and the "Tree of Life" that represents the structure of the ten spheres. The dancer climbs on the sculptures, creating a whole new dimension of movement in space.
The two performers present complementary aspects of the human nature, such as: Wisdom and illusion, life and death, peace and war. Together they express the ability of mankind to connect, join and unite, in order to be the creator of one's own life.
From the critiques:
Ran Braun HAAREZ
'Homa, by choreographer Tamar Borer in collaboration with Carmel Ben Asher is a multidisciplinary work that combines movement, sound, video projections, sculpture, music, and lighting. These come together but also maintain their independence, corresponding with each other without imposing a meaning that stems from the affinity of one element to another. This creation of a space where all possibilities are open is the great virtue of the work."
Yael Venezia Dramaturg
"Tamar and Carmel are legendary performers... Nothing was superfluous and all that happened was with precise timing... Wonderful work… Top-notch sewing and a balm for the soul."
