And the Rock Hangs on the Wind
By Tamar Borer in collaboration with Tom Klein

Performance &#124; Tamar Borer
Music &#124; Tom Klein

A site-specific work, performed at the Aliya Garden , Jaffa.
premiered at Diver festival.

The first source of inspiration for the work is the poetry of Mahmoud Darwish, one of the greatest poets of the Palestinian people. His book "A Remembrance of Forgetfulness", is actually a poignant, painful, exposed and courageous war journal, which he wrote while living in Beirut during the Lebanon War.

Darwish writes in his book that he found a poem among the writings of a Sufi sage, and it is in fact a philosophical-poetic description of the story of the creation of the world. The text calls for observing symbols as reflecting mental, social and political realms.

This idea we seek to express in the work.

Homa By Tamar Borer in collaboration with Carmel Ben Asher

Concept, Choreography, Stage, Soundtrack &#124; Tamar Borer
Creative Dancers &#124; Carmel Ben Asher, Tamar Borer
Music &#124; J.S. Bach: Episodes from "The Art of Fugue", played by Glenn Gould, Elian Radigue: Sections from " Trilogy for the Dead"
Set Design &#124; Ofer Laufer, Nobuya Yamaguchi
Costume Design &#124; Shelly Bormed
Video Art &#124; Yaron Shin
Soundtrack Editing &#124; Inbal Dushi
Voice Consulting &#124; Maya Pennington

Homa is a duet for two women, seeking to reflect the idea of man being a mediator between the two poles of human existence: the perishable body and the divine essence. Human consciousness is resembled to a ladder that allows a connection between the upper and lower worlds: being created in the image of God, and at the same time, returning to be dust in the earth.

Homa draws inspiration from the geometrical structures of the elements of creation presented in the Book of Creation, an ancient text that serves as the basis for the wisdom of Kabbalah.

On stage, adjacent to the walls of the space, are two iron sculptures: a ladder with 7 steps and the "Tree of Life" that represents the structure of the ten spheres. The dancer climbs on the sculptures, creating a whole new dimension of movement in space.

The two performers present complementary aspects of the human nature, such as: Wisdom and illusion, life and death, peace and war. Together, they express the ability of mankind to connect, join and unite, in order to be the creator of one's own life.

From the review:

HAAREZ / Ran Braun

'Homa, by choreographer Tamar Borer in collaboration with Carmel Ben Asher is a multidisciplinary work that combines movement, sound, video projections, sculpture, music, and lighting. These come together but also maintain their independence, corresponding with each other without imposing a meaning that stems from the affinity of one element to another. This creation of a space where all possibilities are open is the great virtue of the work."

Yael Venezia  Dramaturg

"Tamar and Carmel are legendary performers... Nothing was superfluous and all that happened was with precise timing... Wonderful work… Top-notch sewing and a balm for the soul."

HAFUGA&#38;nbsp;
A work for four dancers and a musician.

Choreography, dance, stage, costumes &#124; Tamar Borer
Creative dancers &#124; Efrat Rubin, Einat Gantz, Moran Zilberberg, Tamar Borer
Music – soundtrack and live cello &#124; Tom Klein
Lighting design &#124; Tamar OrrLighting technician &#124; Noam Baitner
Set design – felt sheets &#124; Hadas Levin
Organza clouds &#124; Nava Harel, Noga Lee Harel
Costume execution &#124; Mali Aviv
Still photography and graphic design &#124; JEWBOY

The work seeks to create a space in which one can rediscover the point of stillness in the human soul. As this point expands and deepens, the nature of the respite is revealed. A respite offers us a pause in everything that has happened up to that moment, in order to choose anew the next step. &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp;

 The four dancers represent: four elements in nature, four mothers, four spirits

 The fifth character is that of the wanderer who wanders on his journey along the walls of the space, withdrawn into his inner world, walking among the changing landscapes and reflecting them in his music.

The work HAFUGA is an invitation to take a fresh look at what lies deep within us, and perhaps find that peace of mind that constitutes a solid and stable foundation for gathering strength to continue walking on the path of our lives.

From the reviews: Portfolio magazine / Joy Bernard

"In the new performance by award-winning choreographer and dancer Tamar Borer, it seems for moments that time stands still, and at the same time, all times intersect, meeting through the bodies of four women and one man. The dancers tremble with pain and celebration of the power of life, agitated, merging with each other and separating, finding peace and letting go of it, finishing and starting anew the work of dismantling and reassembling the self.

		<description>SILENCE

Silence is a solo performance by Tamar Borer in collaboration with video artist Noam Baitner.

The work expresses the urgent need to find silence in the midst of turmoil, and the acute yearning for peace. Shaken by an unfathomable reality, we wish to reflect the possibility of awakening the life force that can transcend beyond the difficulties, perceive and create a reality based on hope and compassion.&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp;

Silence seeks to embrace this complexity through the search for basic aspects of the origin of human nature. The performance presents a unique primal movement and live vocal language of the performer, inspired by sounds, syllables, words and texts of ancient Hebrew scriptures.

On stage, the performer emerges from thick and stiff metallic industrial materials. Her delicate body lingers in space, evolving from and disappearing into the video art projection that is screened on the back wall of the performance space.

The video art consists of realistic as well as abstract images that are in a constant transformative evolution, intending to unfold the extreme interior state of mind of the performer.

In Silence we seek to expose the vulnerable and bare human condition that submits to reality and at the same time, wishes to provoke and transform it.

"When you turn the skin of things inside out, they fill up the space and even anvelop it”.&#38;nbsp;

" Coming out of the black abyss, Borer's presence expresses a total metamorphosis, becoming the image of a guardian angel, radiating peace " A. Segal

		<description>ELISH

Performance, stage, costume &#124;&#38;nbsp;Tamar Borer
Music &#124; Bar Eran
 Live video &#124; Yael Ben Shalom
Sculpture &#124; Avinoam Sternheim
Light design &#124;&#38;nbsp;Tamar Orr

ELISH seeks to present different perspectives on the same shared reality: &#38;nbsp;
The performance presents a world within a world, both empower, complement and are vital to each other.
The image that accompanies the work, both poetic and scientific, is the life cycle of metal. A cycle that begins as stardust in space, slowly dropped on and into the ground. There, it turns into mineral crystals that slowly erode, and finally, rise back up to space as dust.
On stage, different types of metals in different configurations are spread, hung and laid on the ground.

Tamar Borer's performance reflects constant transformation moves, a kind of a journey on earth, between metal crystals, coal particles, stardust and lava surfaces. It represents the human gaze on the layered reality. A reality, which she explores while stretching the boundaries of body and voice, and which, combined with the multi-faceted material installation becomes a world that is in constant metamorphosis.
The world created by the performance and the materials of the installation on stage is documented with live video by Yael Ben Shalom and projected in a closed circle, in a vertical inversion. At the same time, Ben Shalom operates objects in real time, such as water in a glass bowl, powders and lanterns, to create changing landscapes using the cameras' extreme close up lens.
The musician Bar Eran weaves rich and complex sound surfaces. She uses field and voice recordings, manipulates feedback between microphones and speakers, taps on various metal objects, sings and plays the violin.

The name "Elish" is taken from the Babylonian creation story (Anuma Elish - Babylonian: When from Above), which was discovered between Nineveh antiquities in 1849 on clay tablets.

 The sculpture created by the sculptor Avinoam Sternheim, is made of remnants of stanza and depreciation of ready-made metal objects. The sculpture symbolizes a focal point for observing from above what is happening below. An ancient epic perspective on things as they occur today.

A quote from a review by Ruth Eshel
“To see Borer, is to see a sensitive and a deep artist, a philosophet of life and movement. Always exciting, and perhaps the questions that remain unresolved are part of the mystery”.
